Fuel Rebate to Cover Private Coach Operators
Statement by Brendan Griffin TD (FG) KerryWednesday, 13 February 2013.
KERRY Fine Gael TD, Brendan Griffin, has welcomed the expansion of the Fuel Rebate Scheme to cover private coach operators. The news came in the publication of the Finance Bill today (Wednesday).
Deputy Griffin had been lobbying for the concession for the private coach operators over recent months and says that today’s confirmation will lead to considerably reduced costs for this sector.
“This is very positive news for private coach operators and the Irish tourism sector as a whole, as it will make it less expensive to transport visitors, which should bear dividends on our international competitiveness and the jobs front.
“I commend Minister Noonan for having the vision to include this concession in the Finance Bill and Minister Varadkar, who has been an advocate of this for some time.
“In conjunction with other pro-tourism measures, such as the reduced VAT rate of 9% for tourism services and The Gathering, the fuel rebate will help bring more visitors to Ireland in 2013. This can only mean more spending in our economy and more jobs for our people.
