Statement by Deputy Brendan Griffin on Jimmy Deenihan

Kerry Fine Gael TD, Brendan Griffin, has today congratulated former Minister, Jimmy Deenihan, on a long and distinguished career in service of our country. Jimmy Deenihan today announced that he will not be seeking re-election to the Dáil in the future. Deputy Griffin said, “Jimmy Deenihan has given decades of outstanding service to his county and country through his role as a public representative in the Oireachtas for over 30 years. “I wish Jimmy the very best in the latest chapter of his life, as he continues outside of politics to contribute to communities and help others. “Jimmy’s work rate as a public representative was phenomenal, something that helped him win ten elections in a row during his career, a remarkable record in modern politics. “I personally owe a huge debt of gratitude to Jimmy for giving me the opportunity to learn from him as his Parliamentary Assistant for three years, an experience that has enormously benefitted my work in public service. “Jimmy gave everything to his work, first as a Kerry footballer and then as a politician. He is a true man of Kerry and can be proud of countless achievements at local, national and international level.” ENDS
