Irish Water Call Centre Jobs would be very welcome in Kerry

Statement by Brendan Griffin TD

Friday, October 12th, 2012.

KERRY Fine Gael TD, Brendan Griffin, has said that up to 400 Call Centre jobs to be created by Irish Water would be very welcome in Kerry.

Bord Gais, which will administer Irish Water, will today (Friday) publish procurement details regarding the call centre jobs in the European Journal.

Deputy Griffin said that the 400 jobs would have a huge positive impact on the economy of the entire county, should they come to Kerry.

“We all know how important call centre jobs can be for an area. For example, on a positive note, Fexco is a hugely important employer in Killorglin and Caherciveen, providing a good income for hundreds of Kerry families and providing a major stimulant to economic activity throughout the county.

“On a negative note, the loss of Aetna from Castleisland demonstrated the importance of such jobs and every effort must be made to replace these.

“It would be great if the Irish Water jobs would come to Kerry, following the procurement process. Kerry desperately needs an economic shot in the arm and this is one potential project that would be huge for us.

“I am currently working on a number of projects that could potentially bring jobs to Kerry and am acutely aware of the need for jobs for our people. The unemployment and emigration problem needs to be dealt with urgently and I will continue to do all that I can on this issue.”
