Statement by Brendan Griffin TD
Friday, May 13th, 2016
Kerry Fine Gael TD, Brendan Griffin, has received confirmation from management at University Hospital Kerry that the new Magnetic Resonance Imaging Scanner (MRI) will be commissioned over the next couple of weeks.
Deputy Griffin raised the matter through Dáil Question asking when the Scanner would be operational.
In response to Deputy Griffin, Manager of University Hospital Kerry, TJ O’Connor, said that the MRI Unit is owned and fully operated by an external provider and the only thing that has delayed the opening of the Unit and the full commissioning of it has been the planning process and the logistical arrangements around the housing of the MRI Unit. Mr. O’Connor said that these matters are all in place now and the Unit will be commissioned over the next couple of weeks, adding that there are no staff resourcing issues involved.”
Deputy Griffin has welcomed the news, saying that the new MRI Scanner is another boost to University Hospital Kerry and the people of Kerry, who depend on the hospital for a broad range of vital services.
