6 Month Contract For Kilmoyley Post Office
New Owners Given Temporary Contract Before Further Review
Statement by Brendan Griffin TD
Tuesday, April 5th, 2016.
KERRY Fine Gael TD, Brendan Griffin, has received confirmation from An Post that the new owners of Kilmoyley Post Office are to be issued with a six month temporary contract to operate the Post Office, to be reviewed after that time.
Serious concerns had been expressed by local people that the Post Office would close following the recent sale of the business. Numerous submissions were made to An Post in support of the retention of the facility and An Post is now to issue the six month contract with a view to reviewing the contract again later this year.
Kerry Fine Gael TD, Brendan Griffin, who has been liaising closely with An Post on behalf of local campaigners, has cautiously welcomed the commitment from An Post and has described the development as a stepping stone.
“This 6 month contract gives the new owners a chance to build the business and prove the viability of the Post Office in Kilmoyley. While I would have much preferred to have seen a long-term commitment to Kilmoyley Post Office from An Post at this point, this development is a stepping stone and gives the local community and the owners of the Post Office an opportunity to build the business and strengthen the case for the retention of the facility in advance of the further review later this year.
“I will continue to liaise closely with An Post and the local community in Kilmoyley about this case and am determined to assist in the long-term survival of the local Post Office. No Post Office had closed in Kerry since 2010, a record that I am determined to keep in tact. I made a detailed submission to the Post Office Working Group in 2015 and will continue to work with Government on all Post Office related issues to help ensure a bright future for the Post Office network.”
