KERRY Fine Gael TD, Brendan Griffin, has welcomed news that the heads of the Coast Guard Service have been invited before the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport on October 24th for questioning on the Fisher Report.
The Committee decided on the matter at its meeting this morning. Deputy Griffin had written to the Committee Chairman. Deputy Tom Hayes, in September and a petition from other Oireachtas members was also sent to the Committee.
The Fisher Report relates to the future of Coast Guard Service and particularly, the Coast Guard Radio Stations at Malin and Valentia.
“I am glad that following this mornings meeting of the Joint Oireachtas Transport Committee, the heads of the Coast Guard Service will be invited to come before the Committee for questioning on the Fisher Report . I made this request on September 19th to Committee Chairman, Tom Hayes. My colleague, Deputy Noel Harrington (FG) Cork South West, proposed the matter at today’s meeting.
“I am looking forward to the opportunity to question the heads of the Coast Guard Service on the Fisher Report and believe that this hearing will help inform debate on the future of the Coast Guard Radio Stations at Malin and Valentia. I will also continue to liaise with Minister Varadkar on this matter, as I have been doing over the last number of months. I will also continue to liaise with my colleagues in Donegal, such as Deputy Joe McHugh, Deputy Noel Harrington in Castletownbere and Kerry’s Oireachtas members on this vitally important issue.”
