Donkeys to Count for Stocking Density Calculation For New Areas of Natural Contraints Scheme

Donkeys to Count for Stocking Density Calculation

Statement by Brendan Griffin TD (FG) Kerry
Wednesday 29th April 2015
KERRY Fine Gael TD, Brendan Griffin, has today welcomed confirmation from the Minister for Agriculture, Simon Coveney, that donkeys will continue to be eligible for the calculation of stocking density in the new Area of Natural Constraints Scheme, which will replace the Disadvantage Area Scheme.
The same terms and conditions of the Disadvantage Area Scheme in relation to donkeys will continue to apply to the new Area of Constraints Scheme.
Deputy Griffin had been seeking clarification on the matter from the Department of Agriculture for some time and has made numerous representations to Minister Coveney on the matter.
He said: “I am happy that farmers will now have certainty on stocking requirements for this scheme in relation to donkeys and I thank the Minister and the Department for this decision. This will come as a relief to many Kerry farmers and is a welcome help.”
