KERRY Fine Gael TD, Brendan Griffin, has confirmed that the €4.35 MILLION allocated for the N86 in 2015, which was feared lost to other projects, will now be held in place for the foreseeable future. Deputy Griffin received the news following numerous meetings and discussions that he has had with Minister for Transport, Paschal Donohoe, regarding the withdrawal of funding by the NRA for the planned upgrade of the Camp to Dingle section of the N86.
Deputy Giffin said:
“I am delighted to confirm that the €4.35 MILLION allocated for the N86 in 2015 will now be held in place for the foreseeable future. This is an important development that I am glad to have secured through my work.
“I am determined to help ensure that the N86 Camp to Dingle road improvement project goes ahead as soon as possible. While I am angered and deeply disappointed by An Taisce’s decision to seek a judicial review of the project, thus delaying its progress indefinitely, I am doing everything I can in my role to address the situation, having lobbied intensively for the funding in the first place.
“As the TD from the Dingle Peninsula, I have requested to meet An Taisce directly in Dublin to discuss the impact of their actions on the people of the peninsula. An Taisce has so far refused to meet me, a blatant disregard for the people.
“I am calling on residents of the Dingle Peninsula to make direct contact with An Taisce to request that they would withdraw their legal action to allow the road to proceed in the interest of the economic development of the entire Dingle Peninsula and the safety of all users of the N86.
“People may write to: John Harnett, Chairman, An Taisce, Tailor’s Hall, Back Lane, Dublin 8 or email: email@example.com. They may also make contact by phone: 01 454 1786.
“I am calling on everyone to attend the rally of support in Annascaul on Saturday, February 7th and I assure the people of the Dingle Peninsula that I will continue to do all that I can to help ensure that this vital infrastructural development will proceed as soon as possible.”
