KERRY Fine Gael TD, Brendan Griffin, has today (Tuesday) welcomed almost €200,000 in funding from the Department of the Marine for the repair and maintenance of Kerry Piers.

KERRY Fine Gael TD, Brendan Griffin, has today (Tuesday) welcomed almost €200,000 in funding from the Department of the Marine for the repair and maintenance of Kerry Piers.
The funding represents 75% of the estimated project costs and the other 25% will be spent by Kerry County Council. The bulk of the €200,000 grant aid will be spent on Renard Pier and Brandon Pier, two piers that Deputy Griffin has been strongly lobbying on.
At Renard, €112,500 is being allocated towards pier stabilisation. The funding will allow for the construction of a retaining cap around the top of the sheet pile to prevent further spread of the sheet piles and stabilise the pier for subsequent rehabilitation works. The total estimated value of this job is €150,000.
At Brandon, €60,000 is being allocated towards structural evaluation and the completion of infill grouting to the pier core to fill voids. The total estimated value of this job is €80,000.
A further €27,000 is allocated to eight other piers in the county (see below).
Deputy Griffin said:
“This funding, particularly the funding for Renard and Brandon is very welcome. I have lobbied Minister Simon Coveney strongly for this and I am glad that it has been granted. Hopefully we will see more for these and other piers in the future to help sustain and create jobs and economic activity in the marine sector in Kerry.”
